Awards for Children's Christmas-themed Writing Competition

A few of our members have been out awarding prizes to the winners of our Annual Christmas-themed Writing Competition.

It was the third year that we held this competition. Once again, pupils were asked to write an original story with a Christmas theme, unaided and in their own handwriting. The judges were looking for interesting and imaginative stories, with quality and range of expression, spelling, grammar and handwriting taken into account and making due allowance for the age of the author. Stories from all schools were judged together by school year and the overall winner and runner-up in each of the six categories were awarded prizes of book tokens to the value of £20.00 and £15.00, respectively.

Six schools entered and President Margaret Griffin, together with Rotarians Mary McGeary and Alan Mepstead, were delighted to attend school assemblies at Blean, St Johns and Pilgrims Way Junior Schools to present certificates and prizes to the winners.
