Letter of thanks for Food Bank donation - Xmas 2020

Our Members were delighted to receive a letter of thanks from the Chair of Canterbury Food Bank following our recent donation. It's been a great pleasure to have supported this local charity that is helping so many in the community.

As with our donation to Porchlight the other day, the funds for our donation to the Food Bank came from our Members' dining money that hadn't been used because we're now meeting by Zoom.

We have often supported the Food Bank, and back in March at the start of the pandemic we put out a special appeal and added a link to our website.

In his message following our latest donation, Canterbury Food Bank Chair Martin Ward wrote to pass on "the gratitude of all at Canterbury Food Bank for this generosity as we continue to meet the challenge of the busiest period in our history".

Canterbury Food Bank has distributed more than 45,000 meals to people in financial crisis across the district since the Covid pandemic took hold in March.

In the first 11 days alone of December it distributed more than 6,000 meals - a 350% increase on the same period last year. The steep rise has been put down to the continuing economic crisis caused by the pandemic and issues which arise in winter such as soaring heating costs. As a result, the charity is running short of some items including tinned fish, corned beef, tinned ham, cereal, long life juice and rice pudding.

Canterbury Food Bank is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
