Mini Group Study Exchange 2017 Ambassadors

Tamanna Miah and Charlotte Wilks, our two Mini Group Study Exchange (MGSE) ambassadors, have returned from their travels and came to our evening meeting today to give a presentation about their trip.

In Lüdenscheid they met up with their local host family and ambassadors from the other Pentangular clubs, hopefully building friendships that will last well into the future and maintain a spirit of international understanding and cooperation.

While in Germany the two had a packed schedule – including visiting a science museum, a toy car manufacturer, Erco lighting, an open-air museum and other places. They met the Mayor’s representative and were even photographed for the local newspaper. There was plenty of activity too – including a sport’s day, rock climbing, shooting and playing golf. In addition, the youngsters had the chance to visit another Rotary club – with 50% female membership! They also met and dined with the local Rotaract Club, another opportunity to meet new friends and learn about the Rotary family. After a coach trip to Marburg the youngsters had a fiery end to their visit with a wonderful bonfire party.

Charlotte, who gave the presentation and will soon head off to study for her Masters in Forensic Anthropology and Archaeology, was fascinated by a post-mortem that the group attended – she emphasized how important the experience was for her future career choice. Tamanna, who is studying Media and Communications and Politics and Governance, had a great opportunity to see how things worked in other countries. (Although, sadly, it seemed that things weren’t working for us as – thanks to technical issues – we were unable to see her video presentation. We will welcome her back another day).

All-in-all the girls had an enjoyable and educational time out there, and in fact some of the group have already got plans to meet up again at the end of the year.

We’re delighted that both youngsters had a chance to visit our club for their presentation and hope they will come back in years to come – maybe becoming members of Rotaract and even Rotary in the future. In the meantime, we wish them well with their studies and career choices.
