As announced at our Safari Supper the other day, Sailor Ted has helped us once again to support the Prince of Wales Youth Club (our outgoing President Maxine Blades’ nominated charity).
For an entry fee of £10 each our members and their other halves are invited to estimate the total combined number of nautical miles sailed by members who undertook cruises during the period 1 August 2024 to 31 May inclusive. The annual fundraiser gets its name from Sailor Ted, an intrepid traveller who used to travel around the world “in person” or in the form of a photo.
The closest estimate wins 20% of the total entry pot, with the remaining 80% going to the President’s chosen charity. This year’s winner was Judith Stephenson, who estimated 22,500 miles – just 2 miles from the actual figure of 22,498!
There were 32 entries in total this year, which means £256 will go to the Youth Club to support all the great work it does for local youngsters.
Many thanks to Robert Yonge who oversees Sailor Ted, and to all who joined in and helped support such a worthwhile cause.
