Have you spotted a copy of Canterbury BID’s new Summer City Guide yet? If so, turn to page 13 to see a short piece on The Point. This is great news as the guide is given out to visitors to the city, so it means more people will know about The Point and hopefully use it to refill their water bottle instead of buying a single-use-plastic bottle. Perhaps they’ll take a picture through the hole too!
Canterbury BID have been very supportive of The Point, and we’re so pleased to see the feature included in their latest guide. The lovely photo used shows the grandchildren of stonemason Garry Newton – taken while The Point was still being created. Since its unveiling, we’ve invited others to take their own snaps and share them on social media using the hashtags #TheHolePointPic and #FillUpAtThePoint.
The guide’s Faces of Canterbury feature also highlights several other local sculptures and memorials, including Bulkhead, The Marlowe Memorial (also known as “Kitty Marlowe”), Alluvia, Geoffrey Chaucer and Dave Lee. Aphra Behn – who many of our members will remember from a fascinating talk by Charlotte Cornell – also has a feature of her own.
The guide includes a helpful roundup of what’s on in Canterbury over the summer, including The Great Stour Riverfest 2025. We’re excited that our Annual Duck Race – our club’s main fundraiser supporting a wide range of causes – will take place on the opening day of the Riverfest: Sunday 21st September, at Westgate Gardens.
Canterbury BID’s guide reaches audiences across Kent and will be distributed throughout the summer – great exposure for all featured. A digital version is also available via their website here.
