Welcome from President Robert

Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Canterbury. My name is Robert Yonge and I have the privilege of being the Club President for the year 2010/11

I believe you will find our website both interesting and informative about Rotary in general and our Canterbury Club in particular. We have over 60 members both male and female who are active or retired and represent many occupations, business & professions locally and nationally.

at the Presedential Handover Meeting on Tuesday 6th July, 2010

Most of our weekly meetings are held at the famous St Lawrence Cricket ground in Canterbury on Tuesdays at lunchtime except on the2nd and 5th Tuesdays of the month when these are held in the evening. Visiting Rotarians who would like to attend one of our meetings are most welcome and should refer to the relevant link on this site regarding dining arrangements.

During my year we will be involved in a number of fund raising events such as the Top Choir Kent Competition, the final of which takes place at the Kings School Canterbury on Saturday 16 April and the annual duck race. It is always our intended aim to raise funds for specific projects rather than contribute to the general funds of other charities.

Service in the community is very important to our Club. We will continue to organise our annual stroke awareness day and assist with the Kent & Canterbury hospital fete. We will this year for the first time be organising a prostate cancer awareness day as well as other events. Our Club takes its Rotary very seriously, however we never forget that all our members are volunteers so we do our very best to have a lot of fun so as to ensure we enjoy our Rotary and do some good for society.

If you  would like to know more about our Club, please make use of the links on the website. If you are a non Rotarian and feel you might like to become one,you may wish to meet us in order to see if Rotary is for you. We would be very pleased to tell you more about Rotary and our Club.

I look forward to meeting visiting Rotarians and non Rotarians to our Club during the coming year.

Robert Yonge
