Rotary Christmas Dinner 2013

Over 100 Rotarians and guests gathered at Darwin College, University of Kent on the evening of December 14th to celebrate the annual Rotary Christmas Party.

The Honoured Guest and after-dinner speaker was Lifetime Honorary Member Lord George Carey, visiting Canterbury with his wife Lady Eileen Carey. Other honoured guests included Lord Mayor of Canterbury Heather Taylor and her Lady Mayoress, Linda Taylor.

A table collection during the meal raised the sum of £450 for the Salvation Army, while a raffle at the end raised £310 for local charities – a record for our Club’s Christmas Party collection.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship to Sheila Cragg, for outstanding service to the Community.  Among her many other charitable activities, Sheila has for over 20 years been a member, and for six years the Chairman of the Lord Mayor of Canterbury’s Christmas Gift Fund, as well as being past Chairman of Inner Wheel District 12.

Sheila was a School Governor (St. Stephen’s Junior School) for over 26 years and served on the Governing Bodies of the Canterbury College of Technology and the Canterbury College of Art (prior to KIAD).  Other than that, she is a supporter of the League of Friends of the Kent and Canterbury Hospital (St. Stephen’s and St. Dunstan’s group).

The presentation of the Paul Harris Fellowship is depicted in the last two photos below.
