Being a Rotarian isn’t all about organising events and fundraisers and helping others – we also manage to enjoy ourselves! We had one such occasion today with a wonderful bring-and-share lunch at the home of Past President Richard Kemball-Cook and his wife Cora. The occasion was also a chance for some of us to show off our culinary skills!
Richard and Cora have kindly hosted several other Rotary events at the yoga studio at their home. The theme this time was red, white and blue – with plenty of added colour too! The invitation was open to partners, guests, past members, their spouses as well as potential members, so it was lovely to welcome both new and familiar faces.
We were fortunate to have a wide variety of food on the menu – ranging from healthy salads to delicious (but not-so-healthy) trifles and crumbles. Much of the fare was inspired by many different cultures and countries, reflecting the diversity of our membership. For instance, President Raj Dasan and his wife Rajini brought a Sri Lankan green rice dish and sambal salad made with home-grown tomatoes.
Once again, the weather was extremely kind to us and we were able to mill around in Richard’s garden in the warm sunshine before sitting down to lunch. It was a lovely chance for “hi, hellos”, introductions to new faces, and a catch up on latest news. Most members had found something to fit the theme, including colourful dresses, shirts, jackets, scarves and ties. Some had even managed to co-ordinate their dish with the theme which we think deserves congratulations!
At the end of the meal Raj thanked Richard and Cora for their kind hospitality and expressed appreciation to everyone who had generously contributed food or helped with the organisation.
