The Canterbury Society, a local group dedicated to protecting Canterbury’s heritage and shaping its future, has featured The Point in its latest newsletter to members and contacts – helping spread the word about this exciting new addition to the city.
As we’ve said before, the more people who know about The Point and use it to refill water bottles instead of buying single-use plastic, the greater its positive environmental impact.
But it’s important to remember that The Point is more than just a refill station – it’s also a striking piece of public art. Blending pale Portland stone with sleek steel, it reflects Canterbury’s historic character while offering contemporary architectural significance. The carved quote from John Bunyan’s “Pilgrim’s Progress” nods to the city’s pilgrim heritage, but metaphorically could also refer to the modern day visitors that flock to the City. Meanwhile, the reflective steel aperture invites photo opportunities for this social media age – particularly for the young people who will shape Canterbury’s future. We hope The Point will become part of their heritage.
We’re grateful to The Canterbury Society for their support. In fact its Chair, Hilary Brian, shared a message following The Point’s unveiling: “It is a fabulous gift to the city and I am sure it will become a focal point… Great job Team Rotary Canterbury!”
