Donation to Kent MS Therapy Centre

Our Community Services Committee have regularly supported the fantastic work done by the Kent MS Therapy Centre in Canterbury over many years.

Recently, Rtn Deborah Connolly was delighted to visit and present a cheque for £400 to the Centre to fund 10 hydrotherapy session for a member of the Centre with MS (multiple sclerosis) in their superb pool. There she met with Moira Mitchell, Head of Fundraising, and Sarah Bosley, Community Fundraiser. The two explained how hydrotherapy sessions can be very helpful for people with MS, improving movement, balance, helping with pain relief, and promoting a sense of well being. All sessions in the pool are run by trained physiotherapists.

The Centre also provides support, advice and various other therapies to help people with MS, their relatives and carers throughout Kent. Last year alone they provided over 4,000 various treatment sessions, with therapies including acupuncture, counselling, hypnotherapy and physiotherapy among many others. Maintaining this valuable resource is expensive, yet it is entirely funded by donations and fundraising activities – which is why donations such as ours are important to the Centre.

Moira Mitchell said: “Hydrotherapy is extremely popular with our members and is a priority service at our Centre in Canterbury because of the range of improvements reported by our service users. Hydrotherapy improves pain, mobility, balance, posture, walking, strengthens muscles and reduces swelling/fatigue. Therefore we are delighted to have received £400 from the Rotary Club of Canterbury towards our hydrotherapy service.”
