Donation to Porchlight – Xmas 2020

Members of our Club who’ve been meeting by Zoom have generously supported several worthy causes with their dining money this year. PP Richard Kemball-Cook was out the other day popping our cheques over to recipients, the first to Porchlight for £400.

Porchlight is Kent’s largest charity for homeless and vulnerable people. This year has been a tough year for many and it’s good to know about the work that Porchlight does and to support the charity when we can (as we have done in the past, for example in this instance).

Porchlight’s website shows that their helpline team has responded to 32,343 people across Kent, they have helped 1,400 people helped who were at risk of losing their home and assisted with 173 paid employment opportunities, helping people to get back into work.

Most of our Members regularly pay into our Club’s dining account to cover our meals during our normal meetings – but over the last few months, because of Covid-19, our Members haven’t been able to meet face-to-face (meeting by Zoom instead). As they say, every cloud has a silver lining, and this has provided a great opportunity for us to support a number of causes both here and overseas, at a time when our normal means of fundraising have not been possible.

We are very grateful to the generosity of many of our Members who chose to use their dining money in this way, a way in which we can certainly say that our Members have met Rotary’s principle motto – “Service above Self”.

Our Past President Richard Kemball-Cook did a stellar job of posting the cheques while out exercising on his bike.
