Duck Race 2022 – counting out

Some of our Members were busy today counting out our ducks for the upcoming Duck Race on the 11th September. They needed to make sure all numbers were present and correct – with any duplicates de-DUCKted of course!

It’s a job we do every year to verify all the competitors ahead of the Duck Race. It can be a bit of a chore as there are more than 4,000 ducks in total, and all numbers have to be checked (or is that CHICked?) carefully. But, despite the hot sun, our resilient Rotarians gave the task a good QUACK – thanks, no doubt, to being fortified by a diet of coffee, doughnuts (supplied by Gill) and friendly banter!

The race ducks are now resting before the big day – while their non-racing friends & family are out-and-about raising publicity and manning (or is that DUCKing) our Duck Stall in Whitefrairs. The first date for the stalls is this Saturday – do make sure you go along and sponsor a duck (or few) in the race. The winner gets £250, with other prizes too!

All of this year’s duck stall dates (in Whitefriars, Canterbury) are below:

  • Saturday 27th August
  • Saturday 3rd September
  • Weds 7th September
  • Saturday 10th September

There may be a limited number of ducks available for sponsorship on the day of the race. Rather than risk disappointment, please pop by our stall on one of the above dates.

And don’t forget, even if you don’t sponsor a duck, do come by to say hello!

With thanks to Rotarians Tim, Lewis, Brian, Philip, John, Rosemarie, Alastair, Graham, Rosemary, Peter, Robert, Roger, Gill and chief organiser Raj as well as President Tony for doing the counting out!
