You know that our Annual Duck race is coming up later in the year when we start counting out the ducks – one of the key jobs in the build up to race day, As usual, a group of Rotarians and spouses gathered together for the task. Don’t forget to make a note that this year the Duck Race will be held on the 21st September, the first day of Canterbury’s Riverfest. Eggs-citing!
Only eight-or-so valiant volunteers braved the breezy grey morning to help with the task this year. They’d expected a sunny and warm day, but several of them wished they’d switched sunhats for warm winter woollies!
The counting took place at Bretts (Milton Barn Old Church) in Canterbury. It’s a “tough”, repetitive job, so as usual organiser and President Elect Raj Dasan provided doughnuts for fortification. Basically, the number on each of duck has to be cross checked against a list and thrown into the appropriate box.
Thanks all the volunteers that came along to help! The ducks have now all been counted out and are race ready. Don’t forget to pencil the date in your diary. Later in the summer we’ll be telling you when/where you can sponsor a duck from.
