Canterburys’ Great Stour Riverfest gets off to a great start!

This year’s Riverfest got off to a great start on Saturday – made better thanks to plenty of visitors to the city and some fine weather. We were at Canterbury’s Westgate Gardens and Whitefriars to get sponsorship for ducks for our Annual Duck Race which, this year, will take place on the last day of Riverfest, Sunday 22nd September (with our race starting at 1pm).

We were delighted to be at Westgate Gardens on the opening day of the Great Stour Riverfest – a series of exciting and fun events featuring the river, organised by Canterbury City Council and the local community.

There, our President Maxine Blades manned our duck stall, ably assisted by other members over the course of the day. We were delighted to have lots of people come and sponsor their ducks for the duck race. Meanwhile other Rotarians and Rotary Friends kindly helped man another stall at Canterbury’s Whitefriars. As usual, our stalls gave us a chance to tell everyone about our race – and about Rotary. Given that lots of university students were also in town with their families before the universities open, we also had a chance to get to meet people from all around the country and from overseas too – including a Rotarian or two!

There are now only two more opportunities to sponsor ducks in advance of the race:

  • Sat 21st September: Sponsorship stall at Whitefriars, Canterbury
  • Sun 22nd September: Duck sponsorship before the Race in Westgate Gardens (limited number of ducks).

Don’t forget we have a Facebook event for the Duck Race here – do tell all your friends and family!

Note: The time given is for the start of the race, weather conditions and any other restrictions allowing. **Please arrive early, especially if you want to sponsor a duck on the day.**
