Inspired by Saris: upcoming event by QEGS students

We’re excited to publicise a Sari Exhibition hosted by Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School (QEGS) Faversham at the end of November – an event which some of our members have helped inspire and develop.

The Exhibition will showcase items and ideas that students at the school have created after being inspired by saris belonging to one of our members.

As part of an exercise in which students get real-life experience to put on an event, the students will have organised all aspects of the Exhibition (assisted by their teachers) – from designing the exhibition poster (see picture), creating exhibits which are inspired by the colours, patterns and motifs of the saris, and putting the saris and other items on display – accompanied by captions and other information which they have researched and produced.

Students involved with the Exhibition range from Key Stage 3 to Year 12 students, and the Exhibition will involve Design, Art and English students. As one of the teachers stated, the Exhibition is “giving the students some drive” and “something that a lot of them are very excited about”.

During a short interval a team from local dance group Bollywood Blast will put on a dance for attendees.

The event is being publicised as “in association with the Rotary Club of Canterbury” and we would like to ask you to come along with your friends and family and show support for the youngsters.

The event details are as below:
Date: 30 November 2023
Time: 5-6 pm (with interval for Bollywood Blast)
Venue: Elizabeth Quinn Theatre, Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School (QEGS), Abbey Pl, Faversham ME13 7BQ

This event is FREE and open to all members of the public.

(Please note there is limited parking on site but there is parking on roads surrounding the school.)

“I’m really looking forward to the exhibition and seeing what the students have come up with,” said Julie Reza, the Rotarian who initially conceived the idea. She added: “I love the way different groups are working together. If successful, we hope the concept can be used for future exhibitions, perhaps in collaboration with other local schools”.
