Our President Maxine Blades and fellow members enjoyed a VE Day fundraiser for Hounds for Heroes in Whitstable yesterday – during which they had a chance to meet “Sir Winston” himself (aka Tony Harris).
Held at the Crescent Turner Hotel and hosted by the Rotary Club of Whitstable, the VE80 supper was a nostalgic and heartwarming evening filled with 1940s charm. Many guests embraced the spirit of the occasion with vintage-style outfits. The 1940s-style buffet even featured wartime favourites – including classic spam rolls!
Special guest Tony Harris, a gifted speaker and performer, brought the evening to life with his entertaining and humorous portrayal of Sir Winston Churchill. Tony is well-known for his Churchill appearances at public and fundraising events and is also a passionate advocate for Hounds for Heroes, the evening’s main charity.
Hounds for Heroes provides specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled members of the UK Armed Forces and Emergency Services, helping them regain independence and confidence. Founded by former Royal Navy officer Allen Parton, the charity relies entirely on public support to fund its life-changing work.
Funds from the evening also supported the ongoing charitable efforts of the Rotary Club of Whitstable, whose community projects and events continue to make a difference locally and beyond.
