Introduction to our MGSE representative to Leuven

Our members were delighted to be introduced to Emma Wilson, one of two young people who will represent Canterbury in Leuven as part of our Mini Group Study Exchange (MGSE) – a unique experience that helps build cultural understanding and friendship.

Each year, each of five “Pentangular” Rotary clubs in Europe arranges for two young people from their towns to meet together for a week of social, cultural and educational activities as part of the exchange scheme. The purpose is for the young people to learn more of each other and their countries and to establish strong friendships.

Following a call for applicants earlier in the year, the two candidates from Canterbury were selected by a panel consisting of PP Martin Ward (administrator), PP Tony Pomeroy, President Rosemary Doyle and Club Secretary Maxine Blades. “This is one of the best things we do for young people,” said Martin – previous exchangees have really enjoyed being ambassador for Canterbury and built friendships that they hope will last a lifetime.

Emma, who grew up in Canterbury and is a former student of Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School, is really looking forward to her trip. Currently, she is studying History & Politics at the University of Edinburgh, where she has just completed her first year. Emma will be joined by another young person for the exchange in Leuven in Belgium which will be between 27th August and 2nd September.

We look forward to hearing about the trip from our two ambassadors when they give a talk to our club later in the year.
