Donation to WasteAid

Our International Committee was pleased to be able to make a donation to WasteAid in time for them to receive matched funding from the government.

Regular readers and members will know that the CEO of this award-winning charity, Mike Webster, came to talk to us earlier in the year about the charity’s work. They aim to help combat the issue of waste in developing countries with community-led waste management and initiatives; Mike gave an excellent example of using plastic bags (that would normally block rivers and drains) to make paving stones in parts of the world where stone is not so easily available.

Our International Committee were so impressed they agreed to the donation of £300, which should be match-funded by the UK Government. Donations will be used to build a plastics recycling training centre in the coastal city of Douala, Cameroon. In this, trainees will learn to make products from plastic waste, stopping it entering rivers and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean.

For more information about the charity, visit the WasteAid website.
