Support for Canterbury Food Bank

Here we see President Geoff (left) giving a cheque for £1000 to Mrs. Chrissie Bar from Canterbury Food Bank towards a van they hope to purchase in January. Following a collection oganised by Mark Rosen (right) the Club is also giving a quantity of Christmas hamper food donated by Club members.

Since January 2013 the Food Bank has given out over 1100 food parcels. This equates to over 20,000 items of food. They work with over 63 agencies that are able to give a voucher to those who are in a short term emergency crisis. People need a voucher to collect a food parcel. They work mostly with those who are in housing but will sometimes work with Catching Lives and Porchlight to help their clients. They have achieved charitable status and are a charity incorporated organisation -1153791. With over 100 volunteers helping in one way or another, they have 3 distribution cafes running in Canterbury, Herne bay and Whitstable. They have begun to give out some toiletries as these too were needed. They are seeing more people every week, especially now that heating is being used.
