Supporting domestic abuse recovery

It is against the backdrop of a “domestic abuse pandemic” that Rotarian Irina Marta has been helping to make a difference to the lives of women and children who have been affected by domestic abuse.

Irina is an independent financial adviser and has been helping domestic violence & abuse service, Rising Sun, via its “One Stop Shops”. These One Stop Shops offer – all under one roof – free advice, information, and support from a variety of agencies to those affected by domestic abuse. Irina has been giving financial guidance as part of this multi-faceted support system; this is essential for those trying to escape domestic abuse as financial abuse often accompanies physical and emotional abuse, creating a web of dependency and fear. “I recognized there was an opportunity to leverage my financial expertise for the greater good,” says Irina, when describing how she got involved.

Irina states her approach is “as unique as it is compassionate”. Providing financial guidance to survivors extends far beyond mere monetary management—it is about arming them with the tools they need to reclaim control over their lives.

“I passionately believe that financial empowerment is a pivotal step in the recovery process for survivors of domestic abuse. When they regain control of their financial future, they acquire independence, self-confidence, and a sense of security that is priceless on the journey to recovery," Irina asserts.
