As the end of the year draws near we thought it a good time to give an update of loans that our Club has made to help people in developing countries out of poverty via microfinance organisation Lendwithcare.
As regular readers will know, Lendwithcare provides people in developing countries with small loans for entrepreneurial ventures.
Since we opened our account back in 2016 we’ve helped 5472 people and funded a total of 249 loans; these have helped 1122 entrepreneurs and created 788 jobs. We understand that over 3562 family members have been helped as a result of our loans.
One loan made in the last couple of months, for example, has helped a female farmer in Ecuador called Gina Yasmin. Gina is a smallholder who farms hens and pigs and grows crops such as maize; she has a school-aged son and her husband works in the mines. She hopes to expand her business and take on new workers. Thanks to our loan and that of others, Gina is now fully funded. We wish her well in her venture and look forward to further repayments (she has already started to pay back her loan).
